WC Spratt Inc. is currently looking to hire a Heavy Equipment Mechanic with significant diesel engine, truck, and construction heavy equipment repair and maintenance experience. This position provides the opportunity for limited on the job training. It is targeted more for motivated self-learners with strong leadership skills. The position requires work inside the Equipment Shop and outside in all forms of weather. The position reports to the Equipment Shop Manager. The ideal candidate for this position will be energetic, situationally aware, and knowledgeable with 5-10 years of experience working in a heavy equipment or diesel truck repair and maintenance environment. Candidates should have extensive knowledge of heavy equipment repair and maintenance procedures for all make and brands of construction equipment. Experience in repair and maintenance of Mack Trucks is preferred. Extensive knowledge and experience with hydraulics, welding, electric, automotive brakes, gasoline and diesel engine principles, engine carburation, small engine operation, principles of shop maintenance equipment service functions are essential. RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs work outlined on work orders with efficiency/accuracy, in accordance with OEM factory, OSHA safety, and company standards. Diagnose, repair, and maintain all heavy equipment, light equipment, and truck automotive systems in the WC Spratt Inc. company fleet. Plan and execute major repairs and maintenance service projects as required, to include engine and transmission replacements. Maintain qualifications for inspection and repair sign-off on commercial truck fleet, to include air brake Inspections. Must be able to manage, communicate and work independently and effectively in a team environment Must communicate well with the Equipment Manager and advise on work to be performed. Must accurately document and close-out all work performed using B2W Equipment Maintenance and Work Order database. Must be able to road test commercial vehicles as required. Ensure shop work areas and maintenance trucks are safe, maintained, and clean. Operate all Equipment Shop tools and equipment in a safe and professional manner. Must have a complete set of tools for Heavy Equipment/Diesel Truck maintenance and repair. Must be able to work in both shop and field repair conditions from assigned maintenance truck. QUALIFICATIONS: 5 plus years experience in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment, and heavy truck repair and maintenance. Strong team leadership skills with ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Welding and cutting fabrication and repair skills. Full knowledge of batteries and repair of electrical systems is required. Ability to operate both standard and automatic trucks Valid CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days with good driving record Must be able to physically lift and carry 75 lbs. Must pass mandatory drug screening. Must pass hearing test. Veteran preference will be considered.
