Register To Vote In Venice, Longboat Key By Monday

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — The voter registration deadline for the Nov. 2 election is approaching for residents of the city of Venice and the town of Longboat Key. Residents have until Monday to register to vote or to update their voter registration at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov. You must be a United States citizen, a Florida resident and be 18 years old. Voters can also confirm their voting status here. This year, Venice voters will be choosing two new council members. Helen Kirchner Moore and Sandy Sibley are vying for Venice City Council Seat 3, while Jim Boldt, Jen Lewis and Chris Simmons are running for Seat 4. Moore and Vice Mayor Richard Cautero currently hold the two seats, respectively. A Venice sample ballot can be found here. In Longboat Key, residents will consider a referendum that will determine the residential density of property in the Buttonwood Harbour neighborhood. The owner of 597 Buttonwood Drive is seeking permission to increase the density from office-institutional uses, which allows no density, to R-3SF zoning, which will allow a maximum of three residential units to be built on the land. The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot in either Venice or Longboat Key is Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. Mail-in-ballots can be dropped off at Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections office on the following dates: Weekdays through Oct. 22, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.Daily Oct. 24 through Nov. 1, including weekends, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.Nov. 2, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The county's three supervisor of election offices are located at the following addresses: R.L.
