PORT CHESTER, NY — Monday's police chase more closely resembled the opening scenes of an action flick than a typical evening on the quiet streets of the Sound Shore —remarkably, no serious injuries were reported. Just after 6 p.m., the Port Chester Police Department was alerted by the Harrison Police Department that they were attempting to pull over a vehicle that was refusing to stop. Harrison police had already followed the car, driven by a man later identified as Aaron Jackson of Harrison, onto Forest Avenue in Rye. The driver continued to refuse to pull over, according to police. Instead, he followed Grace Church Street into Port Chester. Port Chester police stationed themselves at the village line and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver still would not stop. Officers discontinued the chase, deciding that continuing the pursuit would pose a risk to the public. Some time later, the suspect struck a parked car near the intersection of Mill Street and Abendroth Avenue, police said. The car later hit another parked car on Horton Avenue. Investigators say the fleeing car was eventually forced to stop for good when it struck a pole. Jackson wan't done running, however. Police say he fled on foot through nearby storage lots. Luckily, a neighbor soon flagged a passing police car and pointed to the location of the crashed car and the direction Jackson ran. Police found Jackson and attempted to arrest him, but authorities say he still wasn't ready to admit defeat. He reportedly pushed an officer and during a struggle, attempted to grab the cop's service weapon, but was eventually restrained. "We thank the residents for their support during this incident," Port Chester police said in a statement about the incident. "This is just another example of the professionalism of PCPD to apprehend this party who had no regard for the public or their property." No serious injuries were reported as a result of the excitement. Jackson was charged with fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of forged instruments and a number of traffic infractions.
