Shorewood Schools To See FCC Technology Reimbursement

SHOREWOOD, WI — The Shorewood District will receive $11,760 in reimbursements for iPads that students in world languages can used during the pandemic. The cash comes from the FCC and its initiative to expand broadband access to students across America. The pandemic created difficulties in homes that lacked sufficient internet access for at-home schooling. The awards seek to reimburse districts for their work to address such an issue. In July, Shorewood School District sought reimbursement for the iPads used in world languages. The devices are used in school and at home, the district wrote. More cash to reimburse Chromebooks that were recently bought is also pending. St. Roberts also recieved funding for student and teacher devices. Of the 355 applications submitted to the FCC from Wisconsin schools, 189 were granted. "Broadband access in Wisconsin has been a significant challenge for families and schools since long before the COVID-19 pandemic, but the need for virtual learning options has made broadband access a necessity," said State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly in a news release. "Families and schools across our state need additional support to ensure access, and I applaud the FCC for awarding these funds to support our students, educators, and families."
