LONG BEACH, NY — After negotiations with the city and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Irish Day Parade and Festival is set for Saturday.
The 32nd Annual Irish Heritage Parade steps off from Washington Boulevard and West Park Avenue at 11:00 a.m. and proceeds to West Beech Street in the West End, the city of Long Beach said on its website.
This year's parade commemorates the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks by saluting essential workers.
The festival will have street vendors and food trucks but, as a crowd control measure due to COVID-19, rides will not be featured this year.
Other steps being taken for the health and safety of spectators:
All city buses will be free to passengers on Saturday only.Face masks must be worn at all times on public transportation.The city encourages all spectators to wear a mask, especially when social distancing is not possible.Parking will not be permitted on West Beech Street between New York Avenue and Connecticut Avenue from 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The West End bus will run a continuous loop on West End Avenue during the festival. Shuttle buses will take passengers all day from the LIRR Parking Garage to the festival.
There will be free parking for eventgoers at the LIRR parking garage.
"We ask all residents and visitors to abide by the rules and act in a safe manner so everyone can enjoy the festivities," the city wrote.
