Cops Stop Attempted Break-In On Greenwich Avenue: Police

GREENWICH, CT — A 31-year-old man has been charged with attempted burglary after police said he tried to break into an apartment on Greenwich Avenue Monday night. Tyler Miller, of Austin, Texas, was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted burglary and second-degree breach of peace, police said. He was unable to post his $1,000 bond and was placed into a jail cell at Greenwich Police Headquarters. Police were called to an apartment on Greenwich Avenue around 11 p.m. Monday on a report of an attempted break-in. Officers noticed that someone had attempted to manipulate the air conditioning unit at the rear window of an apartment, according to an arrest report. Insulation was removed from the unit along with a cardboard cut-out that was taped underneath. Police said a side panel was pushed in, creating a small 8 by 6 inch opening into the apartment. Lt. Martin O'Reilly of the Greenwich Police Department said a resident inside the apartment confronted the person outside, later identified as Miller, who was attempting to break-in on the fire escape balcony, but Miller ran away. Later, an officer noticed a man matching Miller's description walking nearby on Mason Street and attempted to stop him, O'Reilly said. The arrest report said Miller tried to walk down a driveway on Mason Street, but he was detained. An eyewitness identification confirmed that Miller was the person who attempted to enter the apartment, the arrest report noted.
