Four Summit Firefighters And 1 Police Officer Promoted

SUMMIT, NJ — A number of Summit firefighters and police were promoted recently. Late last week, the Summit Fire Department promoted Paul Imbimbo to deputy chief, Kenneth Jenks to battalion chief, Michael Mammone to lieutenant and William Zagorski to probationary firefighter. They were sworn in by Mayor Nora Radest. Also, at the last Common Council meeting on Sept. 21, Police Officer Christopher Medina was promoted to sergeant and sworn in by Mayor Radest. Above are their photos, and below are their bios from the city: Police Sgt. Christopher Medina Sgt. Christopher Medina grew up in New Providence where he was an active member in the community. He obtained his Eagle Scout recognition before graduating Oratory Prep High School. He graduated Miami University of Ohio with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration-Accounting. Sgt. Medina attended the John H. Stamler Police Academy, Class # 93 as an Alternate Route Recruit. He began his law enforcement career with the Summit Police Department in 2006 as a patrol officer. During his time in the Patrol Bureau, Sergeant Medina became certified as a Field Training Officer where he taught newly hired officers' departmental policy and procedures and how to carry themselves and respond during daily assignments. Sgt. Medina has also served in the capacity of an Officer in Charge which has afforded him the opportunity to fill in as a supervisor in the absence of a Sergeant or Lieutenant; while overseeing the shift and the responsibilities tied to this role. Sergeant Medina has been the recipient of multiple distinguished services awards, two lifesaving awards, and one Chief's Award. Sergeant Medina was assigned to the Detective Bureau for a total of 7 years serving as a Detective handling investigations of crimes, executing search warrants, issuing subpoenas and writing affidavits. Sgt. Medina also serves in the capacity as the departmental TAC Officer working as a liaison between the Summit Police Department and the New Jersey State Police for law enforcement database systems. In addition to these assignments, Sergeant Medina has attended numerous training courses receiving multiple certifications regarding investigations, techniques, narcotics and crime scene processing. Sergeant Medina has also graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law with a Juris Doctor and is a practicing attorney. When not working, Sgt. Medina enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarah, and their two children. Kenneth Jenks Kenneth Jenks became a volunteer with the Summit Fire Department in February 1997 and served in the volunteer division's Hook and Ladder Co. #1, until June 2004, when he became a career firefighter. He was also a member of the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad up to 2003. He received his Associates Degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1993 and completed Firefighter I and II training at the Union County Fire Training Academy in 1997. In May of 2011 he graduated from New Jersey City University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Kenneth completed his Master of Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2014, graduating Summa cum Laude. In April of 2012, Firefighter Jenks was recognized with other members of his crew with the Chief's Award for Meritorious Service, when he assisted with a patient suffering from cardiac arrest. Currently Kenneth is an Adjunct Professor of Fire Science, IFSAC/Pro-Board Level II Fire Instructor, and the Secretary for Summit Firemen's Relief Association. William Zagorski William Zagorski became a volunteer with the Summit Fire Department in May 2019 and served in the volunteer division's Union Hose Co. #1. Will has completed Firefighter 1 and II. He is also an active member of the New Providence Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. In 2018 Will graduated from Raritan Valley Community College with an Associates of Science in Business Administration. Will holds several safety certifications: NJ State Hazardous Material Awareness & Operations NJ State Emergency Medical Technician NJ State Police Confined Space Awareness NFPA 1670 Trench Rescue Ops Water Rescue for the First Responder Awareness Level Incident & Emergency Management Michael Mammone Michael Mammone became a volunteer with the Summit Fire Department in January 2004 and served in the volunteer division's Hose Company #2 until July 2008, when he became a career firefighter. In June 2005 he graduated Union County College with a degree in Applied Sciences (Fire Science Major) and was on the Presidents High Honor List. He also, completed Firefighter I and II at the Union County Fire Training Academy. Mike graduated from TEEX Advanced Fire Fighting School at Texas A&M in 2012. Mike has continued is education through the National Fire Academy. He has also received several additional certifications. In 2010, Firefighter Mammone was recognized with other members of his crew with the Summit Fire Department Chiefs Award. Paul Imbibo Paul Imbimbo was appointed as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Summit Fire Department in August of 1998 and in May of 2000 was sworn in as a career Firefighter. He was promoted to Lieutenant in July 2007, and in 2015 he became Battalion Chief with the fire department. In 1990 he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from The College of New Jersey. In addition, he has attended numerous courses at the National Fire Academy and holds several certifications. He is a Certified Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Inspector, and Instructor. Paul served from 1990 – 2020 as a volunteer with the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Since 2006 he has volunteered for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial Weekend at the National Fire Academy, in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
