DARIEN, CT — Runners can register for the Darien Land Trust's 65th Anniversary 10K Running Challenge during Rocktoberfest at Highland Farm on Saturday. According to a news release, those who wish to enter can register between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., and all who register will be entered into a drawing for an Apple Watch. The running challenge is a month-long event that takes place Oct. 3-31. Runners may enter as many times as they like to enjoy the scenic route and increase their chances of winning the prize. The 10K loop, created to celebrate the land trust's 65 years of preserving land in Darien, takes runners past five beautifully conserved meadows, fields and woodland properties. The loop begins at Highland Farm, crosses Hanson Road to Waterbury Field and continues up Hollow Tree Ridge Road to the Ford Property, Mandel Preserve, and Hollow Tree Ridge Road Meadow. The loop then winds past Stephen Mather Road to reach the rural expanse of Mather Meadows on Brookside Road and circles back to Highland Farm. Runners can register at the Darien Land Trust table at Rocktoberfest, where children can enjoy crafts created by DLT Trustee Nina Miller, a teacher at the Darien Nature Center. They can also register by using the QR code on the welcome sign in the Highland Farms parking lot or at darienlandtrust.org. The entry fee is $10. The winner of the Apple Watch will be announced Nov. 2 on social media (@darienlandtrust).
