MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A steer escaped a slaughterhouse in Mercer County and ran through two towns before being shot by law enforcement officers last week, authorities said.
The incident happened on Friday when a steer escaped the Trenton Halal Packing Co. on Roebling Avenue. It then made its way to Hamilton where officers of the Trenton and Hamilton Police Department tried catching it.
Officers tried to corral the steer behind a fence on Cedar Lane near South Olden Avenue in Hamilton. But after unsuccessful attempts, had to shoot it at Wesley Avenue in Hamilton.
"The steer broke through a fence in Hamilton and was charging at residents. Our officers had to bring it down with two shots," Trenton police spokesperson Lt. Gaetano Ponticiello said.
A video of the incident has now emerged on YouTube. The animal was later removed by the slaughterhouse.
