Press release from the New Orleans Fire Department: September 21, 2021 On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 12:35 pm, the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) responded to reports of a fire on the roof of the Superdome located at 1500 Poydras St. The first company arrived on the scene at 12:38 pm, reporting smoke billowing from a small section of the roof. A second alarm was immediately called for at 12:38 pm. due to the size, type of structure and the location of the fire. Firefighters immediately entered the building to ascertain the exact location and scope of the fire. A third alarm was called for as a precaution at 12:55 pm. The incident commander wanted to ensure there was adequate manpower on the scene in case the incident grew larger in scale. Fire crews were able to get a handle on the fire and extinguish it quickly. Firefighters overhauled the area of origin due to concerns the fire may have extended into addition parts of the structure. Twenty-three NOFD units carrying fifty-one Fire Operations personnel were deployed to the scene of this fire. The fire was placed under control at 1:05 pm. One worker received non-lifethreatening burns and was transported to a local area hospital.
