ASBURY PARK, NJ – The Asbury Park Kiwanis are currently looking for votes as they seek to win a $25,000 grant for playground improvements in the city. The Legacy of Play grant contest is being run by Kiwanis International and has over 20 entrants, with the Asbury Park Kiwanis being the only entrant from New Jersey. The voting goes through Oct. 4, and only the top 10 vote-getters advance to the next round. City officials have been very supportive of the club's efforts and have worked with the club on plans for the grant. According to club President Sarah Bloom, if selected to win the grant, the money is tentatively earmarked for improvements to the playground located on Fourth Avenue and Heck Street. "The park improvements would make it more inclusive since Asbury Park itself is very inclusive," Bloom said. According to Bloom, grants like these are helpful to the community as it gives kids in the town a chance to plays with worrying about getting in potentially harmful situations. "This grant is important, especially for the youth of Asbury. A lot of them have free time and sometimes get into activities that aren't good for them," Bloom said. You can vote once per day online for the Asbury Park Kiwanis entry, which can be done here.
