ORLAND PARK, IL — Two men were charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after Orland Park Police said a ghost gun and another handgun were found during a search of a "suspicious vehicle" just outside Orland Square Mall. On Friday, police said an officer approached the vehicle, parked at Orland Square. According to police, two people were inside — Alexander Syverson, 21, of Monee, and Aundrake Parks Jr., 20, of University Park. While the officer was speaking to the men, he spotted a gun on the floorboard of the car with an extended magazine and could smell cannabis emanating from inside the vehicle, police said. While searching through the car, police said the officer found a 9 mm polymer "ghost gun" with 30 rounds in an extended magazine and one in the chamber. The officer also found a Glock .45 caliber handgun with an extended magazine containing 19 rounds and one in the chamber in the pocket of the driver's side door, according to police. Additionally, police said they recovered approximately fourteen grams of cannabis, not in legal dispensary packaging. The driver, Syverson, had a firearm owners identification card (FOID) but no concealed carry license (CCL), police said. The passenger, Parks Jr., did not possess an Illinois FOID or CCL, according to police. Both Syverson and Parks were arrested and charged, police said. On Sunday, Syverson and Parks were taken to the Cook County Department of Corrections at 2600 S. California Ave. where they were each issued a $10,000 bond. This is not the first time a ghost gun, which has no serial number and is typically self-assembled using products such as 3D printers, has been recovered in Orland Park. In early September, a similar gun was taken from a 21-year-old after police said they discovered it during a traffic stop. It also isn't the first time a ghost gun has been recovered near Orland Square. In June, a Markham man was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after police said they found a backpack with $18,520 in cash and a fully loaded polymer 80 Glock ghost gun in the 19-year-old's car, near Orland Square. Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
