SOUTH SIDE, IL — A woman is dead and a man and infant are seriously injured after a car struck another vehicle and crashed into a building Tuesday morning, fire officials said.
The crash occurred just before 10 a.m. on the 8100 block of South Racine Avenue in the Gresham neighborhood. Police said a 23-year-old man was driving a Chevy Impala on 81st Street when a 26-year-old man driving a Chrysler 300 ran a red light on Racine Avenue and hit the Impala.
The Chrysler spun out following the collision and struck a woman on the sidewalk before crashing into a commercial building, officials said. The woman, 30, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, police said. Her identity has not yet been released.
The man driving the Chevy Impala was taken to the hospital with a broken arm while the infant riding inside the car with him was taken to the hospital in serious condition, a Chicago fire spokesman told Patch.
Officials did not immediately know the age of the infant.
The driver of the Chrysler was not injured. Police said charges were pending as of Tuesday afternoon.
