Description
Established band playing mostly originals looking for lead guitar and keys. The rhythm section (bass, drums, rhythm guitar) has been playing together since before the pandemic, and have played out a few times, so you'll be joining a well-honed rhythm section. I’m the songwriter, rhythm guitarist (mostly acoustic), and lead singer. We welcome people who can sing, too - getting some harmonies together would be great - but the emphasis is on instrumental musicianship. You should have a good ear and enough experience to drop in even without a lead sheet (though I provide them for my originals). One or both of these feature players will have solos in most songs. Since these are originals, your ability to create is critical. We have a lot of fun bringing new songs to the gel point, trying different rhythms and grooves. One example: We do "Angel From Montgomery" to a Bo-Diddly rhythm. We have no interest in doing covers like they've been done before, with a few exceptions - we make them our own. So it's important that this kind of creativity gets you going. Keys will be new for us, but will fit well with our repertoire, though it will be largely up to you to figure out how. As the songwriter, I will sometimes have suggestions, but I leave a lot of space and encourage you to do your own thing that fits. Both lead guitar and keys should be adept at adding color when not soloing. I don't like genre labels too much, but if I had to pick one main genre, I'd say folk-rock is closest. We do a pretty nasty "Long Time Gone" (CSN) for example. We can do strong rock and roll, but we also do county, and can even get a bit jazzy. Dave Matthews Band is one of my personal heroes - very eclectic styles and going into jams a couple times per set. In fact, if you are Buddy Strong on keys or Tim Reynolds on lead guitar, that would be perfect. We rehearse in my living room, so there's no cost for space. You can leave equipment, if you like. We rehearse on Sundays, 11-2, though the time might be changeable. We’d look for you to audition then, if possible. One last thing: We put a premium on being friendly with one another. We're all in our 50s, and have had more than enough drama in other projects, not looking for more. There's always some conflicts, but we prioritize harmony (pun intended) in the group. BTW, it’s not important to be our age - our departing lead guitar is in her mid-30s, and that wasn't a problem at all - though it's probably good if you know and appreciate some older music, like: Neil Young, The Band, Pink Floyd, just to name a few favs. If you think you're a fit for us, get back to me, and we can arrange an audition, and I can send you some videos and charts.
