Description

The Hoosier Schoolmaster was adapted to film in 1914 and again in 1924 For 2021 we have assembled a pair of rare silent movies, both are adaptations of Edward Eggleston’s Hoosier novel “The Hoosier Schoolmaster.” This novel about backwoods life in the early days of Indiana was so popular at the beginning of the last century that it was twice adapted into film, once 1914 and again in 1924. These one-of-a-kind prints are from the Library of Congress! The films will be presented by film historian and preservationist, Eric Greyson with live organ accompaniment by the talented Roger Lippincott. Eric will discuss these rare films including the restoration process and the progress of movie-making technology from one adaptation to the next. Please join us for a back-to-back screening of both versions of this Indiana-based classic! You don’t have to be a member to come watch these seldom-seen films in the most beautiful theater in town! This event is open to the public. Proceeds will go towards the preservation of our historic Skinner organ. Executive Director
