Description
Hey! I'm a singer and a (lousy) guitarist looking for other musicians who possibly aren't the best at what they do but want to put together a band anyway. I've been told I have a gift for singing by people who work in the industry, and I have traveled the country in a barbershop quartet and the singing team for my college. I also have quite a bit of experience (and a Bachelor's degree) in using audio, video, and lighting equipment.
Here's an original song that I wrote and recorded while I was paralyzed and lying on the floor of an RV for six months: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCaP2aYmoYE
I'm interested in doing almost any kind of music except metal. Right now my current choice would be Folk-Punk or Punkgrass. My major influences are Harley Poe (horror folk-punk) and the Haymarket Squares (anarchist punkgrass). My favorite examples of both these groups are:
Harley Poe: What's a Devil To Do (this song is also in a playlist of my other favorite Harley Poe songs, in case you are interested. I love it because it is pretty much my life story about growing up in a religious cult: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd4dhJ8dkTY&list=PLYm_MoDixYu88YALVGJLVtmanKYCX0zvU&index=4
The Haymarket Squares: Bullet Catcher - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5-69YgKM68
I'm Simon, and I'm 41, by the way, if that matters. Most of my friends are in their 20's though since I met most of them when I went to college for the second time in my life (the first time was when I went to seminary fresh out of high school). I don't have a place to practice, and currently don't have my guitar (although my friends in Tucson are bringing it to me in December), although I know several smaller but connected music producers who are very keen on me and could likely help us get somewhere.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
