Join the West Kauai Hui in this community meeting to learn about the KIUC's West Kauai Energy Project (WKEP).
West Kauai came together as a hui to take a stand against environmental injustice and hold KIUC and AES, the developer, accountable! The West Kauai Hui is led by members of Kaunalewa, Poai Wai Ola, Kukonaaola, Na Kiai Kai, and Hui Malama Polihale with the intent to inform, organize, and advocate for our community. The West Kauai Hui is supported by our environmental justice experts at Sierra Club, EarthJustice, and Biological Diversity.
We'll be discussing:The history and initiation of this projectHydropower and how it worksConcerns and comments on the impacts of water diversion The biological impacts, including floral and faunaWhat we know of the benefits to the communities bearing the projectWe've also invited Mama Bear's Kauai Kitchen if you want to pick up dinner!If you want to buy dinner & support a local, westside small business, they'll be serving up their ono food truck menu!
We will be following COVID safety protocols and encourage attendees to wear your mask and follow social distancing practices.
