As part of Aiken County’s 150th anniversary, the Arts & Heritage Center will host free historic trolley tours of downtown North Augusta. As part of Aiken County’s 150th anniversary celebration, the cities of North Augusta and Aiken will participate in historic trolley hop tours across two dates in October. These “History Hop” tours of each city will be free and open to the public. The first date for this “History Hop” tour is Saturday, October 9 from noon to 4 pm in North Augusta. The Arts & Heritage Center of North Augusta (100 Georgia Avenue) will host visitors for the trolley tour. Guests can park in the parking garage next to the Medac building and enjoy the AHC’s exhibits and gift store while they wait for their trolley tour of North Augusta to begin. As part of this event, guests will hop on the trolley for a 45 minute guided tour of historic highlights in downtown North Augusta. Trolleys will depart from the Arts and Heritage Center on the half hour. Pre-registration for the North Augusta tour’s time slots on October 9 is encouraged. You can reserve your spot by clicking on the “History Hop” tab at www.AikenCounty150.org. While you’re enjoying your time at the AHC, be sure to visit with longtime Augusta newspaperman, Don Rhodes. Rhodes covered the Beatles and has written books on James Brown and Ty Cobb. He interviewed Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton and reported on Augusta and Georgia politics over the years. His new book of short and fascinating vignettes about North Augusta is now available in the AHC Gift Shop. Don will be at the AHC on Oct. 9th for a book signing. Thanks to the generosity of the North Augusta Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department and the City of Aiken’s Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department, both “History Hop” events are free and open to the public. Masks are strongly encouraged while riding in the trolleys.
