Back by popular demand, Dean Erwin Chemerinsky will highlight his important new book, Presumed Guilty: How the Supreme Court Empowered the Police and Subverted Civil Rights, and preview the new session of the Supreme Court.

Presumed Guilty is especially relevant in the wake of the highly publicized police killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Daniel Prude, and others. These tragic cases heightened our awareness of police violence and the prevalence of racism in law enforcement. Dean Chemerinsky maintains these disturbing practices have gone on for decades, thanks to the courts — particularly the Supreme Court, which rarely rules against the police.
Renowned for his keen analyses and clear, concise explanations, Dean Chemerinsky also will discuss some of the noteworthy issues pending before the nation’s highest court. These include the controversial abortion laws in both Texas and Mississippi and cases dealing with gun rights, antitrust, and the First Amendment.
