RANDOLPH, MA — A man from Randolph was indicted last week on two counts of animal cruelty for allegedly beating a pair of Candian geese so horribly that they had to be put down.
Ernest Allen, 55, pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges at his arraignment at Quincy District Court back in August.
"The Randolph Police Department responded to Mr. Allen's home after being contacted by a neighbor who reported seeing him beating the geese with a stick," said District Attorney Michael Morrissey. "The geese were transported to the New England Wildlife Center in South Weymouth. Despite their efforts, the geese could not be saved."
Morrissey says a superior court arraignment should be expected in the upcoming weeks.
The maximum penalty for animal cruelty in Massachusetts is 7 years in state prison.
