Construction Completed On Wauwatosa's 'Most Complete Street'

WAUWATOSA, WI— City and health leaders celebrated the construction on 87th Street at the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center Campus. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Thursday for the official opening of the newest complete street. Complete streets are roadways that include space for all modes of transportation — including separated bike lanes, sidewalks for pedestrians, and lanes for cars and transit cars. They are different from traditional roadways because complete streets prioritize the safety and mobility of all users. Construction started in 2018 on the street. Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride joined leaders from the medical center and its member organizations, including Children's Wisconsin, Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin, and the Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin Blood Research Institute for a brief ceremony. McBride said in order for the region to be successful then the medical center must be successful. "We have dedicated a lot of time, effort and money here in Wauwatosa to provide safe places for bikers and pedestrians to travel," McBride said. "I applaud the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center for buying into that vision." MRMC Executive Director Bob Simi and MRMC Board Chair Eric Conley, who is also President of Froedtert Hospital also delivered remarks.
