Description
OAK CREEK, WI — Oak Creek residents can nominate first responders from their community for a statewide award that will be handed out at a ceremony in Madison in the final week of October.
The First Responder of the Year award will honor one first responder such as police officers, sheriff's deputies, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics from each of Wisconsin's 99 Assembly Districts. Those nominated from Oak Creek, the 21st Assembly District, will go up against other first responders in South Milwaukee and Franklin for a chance at the honor.
Oak Creek's Assembly Representative, Jessie Rodriguez, asked the community to submit nominations for the contest and offered more details on her website.
People can be nominated for a variety of reasons, according to Rodriguez, such as:
"A specific heroic action.""A significant professional achievement.""Something special they do for the community during the course of their work.""His or her body of work over time.""His or her length of service."Nomination forms are due by Oct. 8. You can nominate a first responder here.
"A winner from within our assembly district will then be selected in October and he or she will be invited to a Hometown Heroes recognition in the Assembly during the week of October 26th," Rodriguez said on her website.
"Thank you in advance for participating in this program to recognize our first responders," she added. "I look forward to reading your submissions about our local heroes!"
