My name is Jacob Polzin and I'm President of TBG Technologies, an IT support company since 2004. The reason TBG Technologies exists is that we believe small companies are ignored. We are talking about the really small businesses. Those with ten or fewer employees usually get the short end of the stick when it comes to technology support. They have the same goals as big corporations. They have the same technology issues. But they have a tough time getting good, reliable help. The Boiled Frog strikes again. We have slowly, inexorably been moved into a wireless world. Just like the frog that doesn't know it is being cooked because the temperature is changing slowly, we are mostly unaware of the monumental communications changes going on all around us. Think of all the computerized devices you have right now. How many of these require wires to operate? Not very many, right? Your laptop, smartphone, tablet, headset, printer – even the new TV you just purchased (at a ridiculously low price, I might add) are all operating without wires for communication with the rest of the world. The only wires in some of these are for power, not communication. But there is one area where wires still dominate. That is the wires that bring the internet to your home or office. Cable and fiber dominate this area, so we are still mostly tied down. There are some exceptions, of course. There always are. You can use your phone as a "hotspot" and get your internet through the connection it provides. But this is a poor substitute for that darned wire coming into your building. But this is a temporary condition. Already there are devices that let you connect your entire home or office through a wireless connection, most likely a 5G connection. This will change everything. Think of this: you open the box of your new 5G internet device and wait a few seconds for it to make its connection to the internet. Once that is done, you now have a full speed, Wi-Fi signal available to all your devices at home or in your office. And there is not a compromise on speed. Your new internet connection is just as good as that old cable you were using. I predict we will all have wireless home and office internet connections within the next 5 to 10 years. What will that mean for our lives? Don't underestimate the impact of wire-free internet connectivity. Just think of how our world has changed since the introduction of the smartphone. The iPhone was introduced in January 2007, just 14 years ago. It has changed us in ways we could not even imagine at that time. Why? What was so powerful that in just 14 years, about 4 billion (BILLION!!) smartphones of all types are out there? When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone (which was not the first handheld computing device, by the way, just the most innovative at the time), he demonstrated its ability to surf the web, manage email and that was just about it. Now, we have found that having a powerful and connected device that fits in our pockets is so useful that all sorts of jobs rely on it. There are even pocket-sized heart monitors (EKGs) that use the smartphone to work. So, what will be the result of having an internet connection to your home or office without needing wires? Who knows? But the idea that you can pick up your internet connection and plug it into a completely different location and provide service to your entire team without having to rewire everything is bound to make a huge difference and in ways we cannot imagine today. Home Internet Wi-fi hotspots will change the industry and I for one, can't wait! My unit arrives tomorrow – I'll let you know how it goes.
