MERRICK, NY — An anonymous threat to the Levy Lakeside School in Merrick on Monday morning led to a delayed opening. Once police deemed the building safe, the building was opened, School Superintendent Dominick Palma said in a message to families. However, Palma said this was connected to another threat to the Lakeside Elementary School that was received on Sept. 17. In that threat, the school was alerted that a student would arrive with a weapon. The Levy Lakeside school "once again received a threat from an out-of-state telephone number," Palma wrote. Out of an abundance of caution, Nassau police searched the interior and exterior of the school, including using the K-9 units. The school was declared safe and opened to students at 10:40 a.m. While the threats have been non-credible, the situation on Monday "was both frightening and frustrating," Palma said. "These threats against our school are disturbing and disgusting; however, the Merrick community is stronger than these troublemakers."
