Bus Driver Assaulted In Woodbridge, Suspect Arrested: Police

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Two riders on a bus in Woodbridge detained a man who was accused of assaulting the bus driver, the Prince William County Police Department said. The man, who was later identified as Joshua Albert Jacobson, was then taken into custody by police officers. Authorities said the incident began around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25. Officers responded to the scene of the assault near Old Bridge Road and Hedges Run Drive in Woodbridge. Authorities said that a man on a Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission bus was yelling at a bus driver, who police identified as a 49-year-old woman. Eventually, the man broke the plastic partition that separated them and struck the driver, police said. Authorities also claimed that the accused took the driver's phone away from her when she attempted to call the police. A struggle over the phone ensued, the police department said in a report. They were able to detain the accused until authorities arrived on the scene. At one point during the encounter, the accused lit a light in an attempt to burn the two men, the police department claimed. All three victims reported minor injuries from the encounter. Jacobson was charged with two counts of malicious wounding, one count of attempted robbery, three counts of assault and battery, and one count of preventing the summoning of law enforcement. He is currently being held without bond at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center. His court date is pending. Have a story idea?
