Submitted by Joseph Maddalone, Stamford resident I am not from Stamford, I am a Yankee fan, and I had never met Bobby Valentine until his birthday party mayoral announcement. But I remember like it was yesterday the feeling of unity Bobby provided my 7th grade self and the entire Long Island community in New York's darkest hour. Having now lived in Stamford for three years with my wife, golden retriever, and newborn daughter, Bobby reflects my vision for how to unite a city full of big doers, not big talkers. I want a Mayor with a track record of success centered on unity and inspiration that reminds us all what leadership looks like. Unfortunately, perception is perceived as reality, and like many young families moving to Stamford, we are renting until we find a house. Schools are the most important decision when it comes to homeownership, and the perception of Stamford schools is reflected in the state of the buildings. I have met many Stamford teachers in line for coffee or at the deli, and I will say that their passion for their job in spite of the crumbing school infrastructure is inspiring. Stamford teachers and students deserve better, and those that allowed this to happen should be held accountable by the voters. When I researched the history of the Waterside section where I live, I came across an article from The New York Times from 1977 describing this section of Stamford. After many walks on Southfield Avenue, I can say that it doesn't seem like much has changed. Stamford needs a Mayor for those that have been left behind in the development boom. It has been said that baseball & Bobby Valentine united the world after September 11th. It is that same inspiration and perspiration while leading from the front that Stamford needs now. Bobby has united us once, and let's have him do it again. I think we all want to feel that same unity and community again
