Why would the Trump administration allow China to buy U.S. farmland?

During his time in office, President Trump allowed China (our sworn enemy, in Trumps own words) to buy nearly a million acres of valuable farmland INSIDE our nation? Most of these acres were purchased in Texas of all states. Governor Abbott endorsed a deal to sell hundreds of thousands of acres of U.S. farmland to China. Why? Past presidents have worked very hard to protect our resources and make sure that America is and always will be 100% food secure. Why would two prominent republican leaders sell our most precious resource to China? Why would Trump sell one of our few remaining exportable goods to a nation who desperately depends on those goods? One thing China does not have is enough land too feed its own population. Why would Trump and Abbott allow our land to be sold to a foreign and potentially hostile nation? If you never put on a scuba mask and look beneath the surface of the ocean, you will never know what lies beneath.
