Deadline Nears To Provide Input On Route 50 Changes In Chantilly

CHANTILLY, VA — Fairfax County residents will have the chance Tuesday to provide feedback about the Virginia Department of Transportation's plans safety and operational improvements to Route 50 (Lee Jackson Memorial Highway) between Stringfellow Road (Route 645) and Route 28 in Chantilly. Through its STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study, VDOT considered potential improvements for nearly 2 miles on Route 50 to address safety concerns and to relieve bottleneck on the roadway. In March, VDOT released its final report, which proposed a number of short-term recommendations for Phase 1 of the project, including upgrading pedestrian ramps to make them ADA compliant, converting bus stops to bus shelters, adding a sidewalk connection between Galesbury Lane and Lees Corner Road, and reconfiguring and modifying intersections. In Phase 2 of the project, VDOT will consider potential innovative intersection improvements, including partial median u-turns at Lees Corner and Stringfellow roads, and safety improvements along the Route 50 service road. The public has until Oct. 8 to provide feedback on the project. They can do so by participating in an online information meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. Participants can register online to access the meeting.
