Here are the top stories in Burlington today: A Burlington resident has been charged with illegally buying a firearm for a Plattsburgh felon. 29-year-old Marissa Byrd falsely informed a firearms dealer that she was purchasing a weapon for herself when she was actually purchasing it for another person, a process commonly known as straw purchasing. (Department of Justice)As schools continue to see COVID-19 cases go up, several of them across Vermont are hosting pop-up vaccine clinics. Schools in Barre, Brattleboro, and Burlington will open their doors to the community in an effort to get more shots into arms. Nine other schools across the state held similar clinics last week. According to Vermont's Secretary of Education, the agency is working to develop a voluntary data collection to determine vaccination rates at each school. (WPTZ) On Sunday, several families in Burlington walked hand-in-hand for the 11th annual Buddy Walk. It is one of 250 National Down Syndrome Society walks happening across the country this fall. The event is meant to raise awareness and funds to support activities run by the Champlain Valley Down Syndrome Group, including summer camp and dance workshops. The timing of the Buddy Walk comes just ahead of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, observed each October.
