Press release from the City of San Antonio: Wednesday, September 22, 2021 CONTACT: Stacey Norton, Department of Arts & Culture 210-207-6960, [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (September 22, 2021) – The City of San Antonio's Department of Arts & Culture today unveiled 30 San Antonio based artists selected to receive $5,000 grants as part of its new Individual Artists Project Grants Program. Aimed to support a diverse portfolio of artists working across San Antonio, the grants support the production of new, original, and high-quality art to be presented in the city over the next 18 months. The grantees range in discipline including Literary Arts, Media Arts, Multi-Disciplinary, Performing Arts and Visual Arts. Martinez David Ortiz Elizabeth Rodriguez Erica Monzon Excy Guardado Bonilla Francisco Leal Jenelle Esparza José Rubén De León Justin Dale Korver Laura Varela Lauri Jones Latasha Parham Lisette Denise Chavez Marisela Barrera Michael Foerster Nathan Felix Pamela Martinez Ray Rodrigue Rosalinda Champion Sarah Fox Suzanne González Verónica Castillo Salas Xelena Gonzalez The Individual Artists Project Grants Program is a result of the Department of Arts & Culture's Individual Artists Support Strategic Plan, developed and adopted in 2020 following a series of focus groups with individual artists and analysis of the creative economy, a community and visitor survey, past artist programs, and peer cities best practices. "The Individual Artists Project Grants Program is truly a collaborative effort between our department and the many outstanding artists who call San Antonio home," said Department of Arts & Culture Interim Executive Director Krystal Jones. "It is exciting to see the program come full circle with the support of 30 talented individuals and new and incredible artworks for residents and visitors to experience, enjoy and share." Under the guidance of the department's overarching Cul-Tú-Art Plan, the grant program is administered with equity as a priority. Grant applications were not only evaluated by a panel of experts in each artistic discipline, but additional points were also provided to artists who self-described as a person of racial and/or ethnic color, woman, LGBTQIA+, veteran, and/or living or operating their studio in a census tract that is historically disadvantaged as shown on the City of San Antonio's Equity Atlas.
