1940 Alamo Stadium (right) is completed and dedicated.
1968 Ravi Shankar plays a concert at the Hemisfair Theater for the Performing Arts (now Lila Cockrell Theater). His daughter, Norah Jones, will play the Verizon Amphitheater on Oct. 16, 2004.
1977 Oilman and philathropist John McFarlin pledges $200,000 towards the establishment of a children's heart center to occupy the entire second floor of the Children's Hospital of the Santa Rosa Medical Center. In recognition of the gift, the facility will be named the John McFarlin Regional Heart Center for Children, said Sister Angela Clare.
