ABERDEEN, MD — Someone was reportedly hit and killed by a train in Aberdeen over the weekend.
The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, according to Beth Toll, spokesperson for Amtrak.
Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 126 — which runs from Union Station in D.C. to Penn Station in New York — was on the way from Washington, D.C., to New York when Toll said it "came into contact with an individual who was trespassing on the tracks near Aberdeen."
None of the crew or 367 passengers was injured in the train crash, according to Toll, who said Amtrak was working with local officials on the investigation.
One person was killed near the tracks, Toll told the Aegis.
"This is a critical reminder about the importance of exercising caution around railroad tracks and crossings," Toll said in a statement to Patch. "Amtrak continues to work closely with Operation Lifesaver (OLI) to communicate these dangers.
Due to the incident, trains from Baltimore to Wilmington were delayed.
Amtrak Regional Northeast Train 126 was stopped at Aberdeen at 12:15 a.m. Monday so passengers could take an alternate train as the result of an "earlier trespasser incident," Amtrak reported.
