Here are the top stories in Irving and nearby communities today: The President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Rob Kaplan, will resign next month after a controversy over financial disclosures. He will become the second senior Fed official to resign after ethics questions were raised this month over their trading activity in the financial markets. Kaplan, like all 12 regional Fed bank presidents, is a member of the Federal Reserve's policymaking committee, with a rotating vote roughly every three years. (KERA News)Pfizer booster shots have been delivered and are being administered in Dallas County as of Monday. The booster is only available to people who received the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago and fall under certain criteria. Eligible individuals include those who are 65 years or older, those who live in a long-term care setting, and those 18+ who are high risk or whose work puts them at increased risk of exposure. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)Two suitcases filled with marijuana were busted by a K-9 officer at the Dallas Love Field Airport. Police said the suitcases, which weighed 42 pounds, arrived at the airport from San Jose, California, and were destined for New Orleans. There is no word on any arrests made in the case. (WFAA.com)Teamwork helped the Dallas Independent School District eliminate about 2,000 unprocessed referrals for Special Education services. Nearly 400 Dallas ISD employees have worked since late May to process the backlog. Dallas ISD has partnered with Stetson & Associates, a nationally recognized firm that supports special education departments across the country, to help redefine the district's processes and procedures. (Dallas ISD)The Dallas International Film Festival is returning with a short but focused run from Oct. 8-10 at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Cedars in Dallas. The three-day event is a truncated version of the festival, which typically lasts around eight days and takes place in early April. DIFF artistic director James Faust says, "Although DIFF 2021 is shorter than in the past, the selected films make this one of DIFF's strongest in history."
