PITTSBURGH, PA —Pharmacies in southwestern Pennsylvania's largest grocery store chain have reinstated online appointment requirements for all COVID-19 vaccinations. The move is being made after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday issued vaccination booster guidelines. All individuals interested in receiving any dose of the COVID-19 vaccine are asked to schedule a vaccine appointment online at the Giant Eagle Pharmacy location of their choice. Giant Eagle Pharmacy is providing Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine boosters to certain patients, if it has been at least 6 months since they received the second dose of the initial Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine series, and they meet the eligibility criteria: • Residents of long-term care facilities (18 years of age or older). • Patients 65 or older. • Patients 18-64 years of age with underlying medical conditions. • Patients 18-64 years of age who are in an occupational or institutional setting where the burden of COVID-19 infection and risk of transmission are high, including essential workers, unpaid caregivers of a frail or immunocompromised person, paid or unpaid workers who interact within six feet of others and those who live in a congregate setting (e.g., a homeless shelter or correctional facility).
