The Bremen High School Boys Soccer Program is off to a rocky start this year. Their current record is 5-6 with a notable win against St. Laurence High School. During the game, the team scored two goals in the last fifteen minutes, giving them a final 2-0 victory over the Vikings.
"When we faced St. Laurence, they were currently ranked number one in the area," says Head Coach Thomas Piotrowski. "The last fifteen minutes was when we scored our first goal which came from Fernando Mejia and is probably the best goal I've seen in high school soccer. I actually got goosebumps after he scored it."
While the team's record might not be that glamourous, players such as Mejia are putting their best efforts forward to have a great year.
"For me, personally, I think this might be the best year that I've had so far," says Team Captain Diego Frausto.
Head Coach Tim Piotrowski says the biggest change for this season compared to last season is all of the COVID rules.
"I think things have been a little bit more relaxed, and because of that the kids are starting to get back into a more normal routine."
Moving forward through the season he says, "we would like to be consistent. If we stay consistent and play at a high level then I think we'll be ready for playoffs."
