Drivers Ignore 'Bridge Out' Signs In Upper Makefield: Police

UPPER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — Several drivers in Upper Makefield Township recently drove through "Bridge Out" signs and a road barrier, leading police to issue a plea for "common sense" on social media. The Upper Makefield Township Police Department posted two photos Sunday showing the barrier on River Road. In the first photo, the barrier — a web of caution tape with traffic cones and signs — stretching across both lanes of the road. The second photo shows the barrier only covering one lane, after two drivers ignored the closure, police said. "Seriously?!!?" the Upper Makefield Township Police Department wrote on Facebook, with an angry face and facepalm emojis. "Twice today this has happened, so either people are taking this as a challenge, or we have seriously underestimated the common sense of those who apparently shouldn't have been issued licenses." "But, in order to reach those who only believe what they read on social media … 'RIVER ROAD IS CLOSED AT LOOKOUT PARK!,'" the department wrote. "Help restore our faith in humanity." The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation closed River Road near Lookout Park last week following a bridge inspection, according to a post on the township's website. The closure was prompted by "undermining" that might not be visible from the street level, officials said in the post, urging people to not remove or drive around barricades.
