NEW LENOX, IL — The New Lenox Police Department responded to 2,505 calls for service in August — an average of 80.81 per day, or 3.37 per hour — bringing the year-to-date total to 21,771, according to data published by NLPD. The monthly data reported by NLPD shows calls for service were down from July's total of 2,602, according to NLPD's data. A call for service is any sort of activity police perform that is logged through dispatch. The report for August's calls for service showed drops in calls for service in (July's calls in parenthesis): Thefts - 23 (29)Criminal damage or trespassing - 9 (17)Criminal sexual assault - 0 (1)But August's report also showed increases from July in: Deception/forgery - 19 (10)Simple assault/battery - 15 (4)Drug offenses - 5 (0)Motor vehicle theft - 2 (1)Driving under the influence - 2 (1)Burglary - 1 (0)So far this year, police have responded to (year-to-date in 2020 in parenthesis): 661 burglar alarms (786)626 suspicious person/vehicle (996)279 deception/forgery (163)133 theft (175)61 criminal damage/trespass (73)52 drug offenses (38)51 simple assault/battery (53)There still has not been any homicide calls for service reported in 2021; there was only one reported call in 2020. Traffic citations are at 850 for the year so far, compared with 1,140 citations issued at this time last year; however, traffic warnings for the year increased to 4,531, compared with 2,938 this time last year.
