ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst saw the most new coronavirus cases in a week since mid-August, according to the DuPage County Health Department. As of Sunday, the city had seen 4,979 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 75 from a week before. The week before last, Elmhurst experienced an increase of 53 new cases. The numbers remain high compared to most of the summer. As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same in the last week, at 70. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.5 percent.
