CHP, Sheriff's Office Help Hand Out 127 Tickets

NEWARK, CA — 127 tickets were handed out in Newark last Wednesday as the Newark Police Department Traffic Unit and several cooperating agencies conducted a High Impact Traffic Team detail, or HITT. While the Fremont Police Department did not participate, the California Highway Patrol and the Alameda County Sheriff's Office provided officers for the operation. The HITT typically works together for 3 to 4 hours to focus on the primary factors that cause collisions, choosing areas near schools and other high complaint areas. A total of 18 officers wrote the following tickets: Speed violations: 75Cell Phone violations: 18Stop Sign violations: 9Unlicensed / Suspended License: 7Misc. violations: 10Red Light violations: 1Pedestrian violations: 3Bicycle violations: 1Turning violations: 3Fail to yield to emergency vehicle violation: 1 The participating agencies were the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, Hayward Police Department, Newark Police Department, San Leandro Police Department, and Union City Police Department.
