Description

I have been working as a mathematics instructor for a decade, and have been working professionally as a data scientist for nearly that long as well. I would like to gauge our community and see if anyone would be interested in attending a seminar I put together around these topics. It would be for junior people in the field, or for people who are looking to see if a career switch could be for them. The goals would be as follows: 1. Set up Python on your personal laptops 2. Gain familiarity with the IDE PyCharm and use it to code 3. Create your private git repositories (for example of GitLab) 4. Go over first principals of coding in Python 5. Go over first principals of Data Science 6. Start a project from scratch and have everyone build it out on their own with my guidance 7. Wind down and provide next steps If you're interested in something like this, email my craigslist email with your name and email address. I'd like to see if we can get 20 people interested in attending. If we can get that level of interest I would look for a venue, rent it out, and have the seminar there. I'm thinking 1 or 2 days would be sufficient. The ticket price would depend on a bunch of factors, most specifically the venue cost, but I'd like to target $100 - $200 per person range. If I gather the requisite number of people I will reach out to you with an invitation to join our first session when it's ready.
