DUBLIN, CA — Lilia Tsui, an English language development teacher at Dublin and Frederiksen elementary schools, ranked among Alameda County's best this year.
Tsui will be honored Nov. 4 at the Castro Valley Center for the Arts at the Alameda County Office of Education's 32nd annual Teacher of the Year awards ceremony for her work in the Dublin Unified School District.
Tsui has been a teacher for 19 years and "is a proven advocate for all students and supports her fellow staff members by fostering an inclusive and accessible learning environment," the county said in a statement. She supports colleagues and families learning to speak English.
"With all the challenges our students and school staff have faced over the last 18 months, the light shines even brighter on the educators who, day in and day out, found a way to keep students engaged and learning under exceedingly difficult circumstances," L. K. Monroe, county superintendent of schools, said in the statement.
Tsui was one of 17 honorees nominated by 15 of Alameda County's 18 school districts "for their individual dedication and excellence in the classroom," the county education office said in its statement. A panel of leaders in education selected the honorees, whose names will advance to the California Department of Education for consideration for its California Teacher of the Year program.
Honorees "collectively represent the thousands of educators doing amazing work across Alameda County every day," the office said.
