After weeks of speculation, Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) issued the following statement: "Our city is facing a public health, safety and economic crisis in homelessness that has evolved into a humanitarian emergency. I've spent my entire life bringing groups of people together in coalitions to solve complex problems and produce concrete change — especially in times of crisis. Los Angeles is my home. With my whole heart, I'm ready. Let's do this — together. I'm running for mayor." After many rumors last year that she was being considered as Biden's choice for Vice President, it's clear the Bass is a politician of powerful national status. Her decision to run for mayor of one of the largest and most influential cities on the planet may well be a step up from her long and successful congressional record. Her last election to Congress as the representative for California's 37th District in 2020, which she won with a more-than-confident 85.9% of the vote, may have her looking for fresh goals. The current mayor, Eric Garcetti, has been put into the post of U.S. Ambassador to India.
