Sheriff's Deputies, CHP Help Hand Out 127 Tickets

NEWARK, CA — 127 tickets were handed out in Newark last Wednesday as the Newark Police Department Traffic Unit and several cooperating agencies conducted a High Impact Traffic Team detail, or HITT. The Alameda County Sheriff's Office and the California Highway Patrol provided officers for the operation. The HITT typically works together for 3 to 4 hours to focus on the primary factors that cause collisions, choosing areas near schools and other high complaint areas. A total of 18 officers wrote the following tickets: Speed violations: 75Cell Phone violations: 18Stop Sign violations: 9Unlicensed / Suspended License: 7Misc. violations: 10Red Light violations: 1Pedestrian violations: 3Bicycle violations: 1Turning violations: 3Fail to yield to emergency vehicle violation: 1 The participating agencies were the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, Hayward Police Department, Newark Police Department, San Leandro Police Department, and Union City Police Department.
