Douglas County Police Warn Residents About Counterfeit Money

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is urging local merchants to be on the lookout for counterfeit cash that scammers are reportedly using around the area when paying for services. The Sheriff's Office posted the warning on its Facebook page on Monday and wrote that residents should be aware that scammers may mixing in "prop money" with actual currency. The department said that in some instances, the prop money, which can be identified on the front of bills as "copy money" may be used to pay for services in full or could be hidden in with legitimate cash. The post also offered images of what the counterfeit cash looks like as a way of helping residents tell the difference between the prop bills and legal tender. "Please be alert and examine each bill for signs that it is not real money," the post reads. A phone call seeking more information about whether incidents of counterfeit cash have turned up around Douglas County was not immediately returned to Patch on Monday.
