WORCESTER, MA — The case of a nearly 22-year-old Worcester killing will come to an end on Friday.
Edwin Novas was found guilty Friday of second-degree murder in the 1999 shooting death of Danny Nicasio. Novas, who fled to the Dominican Republic after the killing, will be sentenced on Friday, according to Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.
The shooting happened early in the morning on Christmas Eve 1999 outside the former Tropigala nightclub along Main Street. Novas shot Danny Nicasio, who was 26 at the time, in the chest, and he died later at a local hospital. Armondo Maisonet, who was 23, was shot in the arm and survived.
Novas, who previously lived in New York City, was arrested in the Dominican Republic in 2017 and brought to Massachusetts to face charges.
On top of the second-degree murder charge, Novas was also found guilty of armed assault and battery with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license and possessing ammunition without a license.
