NATICK, MA — Welcome to the Sept. 27 edition of Monday Manual, where we highlight important events coming up during the week (plus a local fact) in seven Patch communities between Framingham and Worcester. This week we're starting in Natick, which has a particularly high concentration of 2021 Boston Marathon runners. The town of 36,000 has 52 runners in this year's race. Compare that to other nearby communities: Framingham (48), Worcester (26), Wayland (22), Milford (7), Sudbury (18) and Marlborough (11). (And good luck to everyone running this year!) 1) Natick Climate Preparedness Week runs Sept. 24 to Sept. 30 in 2021, and many local cities and towns are holding events to talk about the environment. In Natick, the Morse Institute Library will host "How Can You Help Natick Reach Net Zero?" on Tuesday. 2) Worcester There's a lot of money at stake. Worcester will hold two additional listening session about a plan to spend more than $110 million in federal coronavirus stimulus (ARPA) money. The sessions will take place on Monday at 6 p.m. at the IBEW building at 242 Mill St. (District 5) and on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Worcester Technical High School, 1 Skyline Drive (District 2). Find out more here. 3) Framingham Framingham's Octoberfest celebration returns beginning Oct. 1 with the Jack's Abby celebration. The full downtown Octoberfest, which was postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic, will start the weekend of Oct. 30. 4) Sudbury The MetroWest Readers Fest comes to Sudbury on Thursday with author and Framingham State University professor Jennifer De Leon. The event will offer both in-person and remote listening options. 5) Milford St. Mary of the Assumption is making preparations for the 2021 Festa de Fatima to be held on Oct. 13. The church's celebration will include a procession near the church, and the Board of Selectmen on Monday will approve a permit for the event and related festivities. 6) Wayland It's Special Town Meeting time. On Sunday, Town Meeting will consider an article that would place a moratorium on artificial turf fields. Some residents are concerned about the environmental impact of turf made of crumb rubber. During recent storms, a portion of the new high school football field made of crumb rubber washed away into nearby wetlands. 7) Marlborough Are you interested in mentoring young people? Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass and MetroWest this week put out a call looking for adult volunteers in the Marlborough area. Find out more here. If you have an event or activity you want included in Monday Manual, email [email protected].
