Description
Hi. I am an out of state engineer, mixer, and rock/funk/spacey guitarist... and have been a studio owner throughout the past 15 years. Covid killed my studio... and now I'm splitting up with the mother of my child after a decade. It's a really fantastic and not-at-all-stressful time in my life... and the endless pandemic that helped to destroy my relationship, the music industry, and my career has been just... wow... just... really really great. OK. Enough sarcasm.
The silver lining is that my bro-in-law has a place I can stay for a few months in Baltimore for half of the week that I'm not home being a dad and working part time.
So.
Tell me about your city. What is the music scene like? Who are your favorite bands/artists in any groove-esque/improvisational genres like Rock/Funk/Rap/Jazz... also any small classical bands (trios/quartets/composers). Any electronic artists who have the groove/vibe? No folk...banjos/mandos... No 16th note high hat looped drum beat indie bands. You do you, no judgment... not my thing.
Do you know of any videographers, lighting techs/designers, recording engineers in town who aren't bound to any of the major production companies/studios/etc in town?
No negative responses. Spare me. I don't care about longstanding systemic complaints about the city/music scene/what not. Totally irrelevant to me. Don't care. I just want to get as much info about the creative scene in your city.
Tell me what you like about Baltimore. What/where are the dope joints to eat? What venues do good-but-not-famous bands play at (in the heretofore mentioned genres)? What venues/parts of the city are 20s-50s friendly? What parts of the city should I *definitely* avoid?
Thanks in advance, all. Looking forward to spending a lot of my time throughout the next few months there and working on some cool and collaborative projects.
Peace.
