Tuning In: Music & the Nervous System An Introduction to Sound Meditation and Somatic Experiencing Workshop Description: Join us for an afternoon all about music and the nervous system. Olivia De Jesús (she, them) and Pamela Martinez (she, them) will guide us through exercises that help us learn to track and resource our bodies while learning more about the brilliant wisdom of the nervous system. We’ll be led through grounding meditations, including receiving a nourishing sound bath with gongs, crystal bowls, and voices. Who Should Come: This workshop is for people who are curious about the body’s role in the mind-body connection, those who want to improve their comfort with the body’s felt sense or embodiment, and those who want to learn music-based meditation techniques. More about South Baths: Participants of the Sound Bath can expect to be lulled into deep relaxation using the sounds of singing bowls, gong, tuning forks, vocals, and other sound sources to provide a meditative and healing environment while seated in a chair or more traditionally lying down on the ground. (Please bring your own yoga mats for lying down, we will have some blankets available or bring your own.) More about Us: Olivia De Jesús and Pamela Martinez are musicians, teachers, guides, and co-founders of Southtown Music Studio, a music and wellness center that helps individuals find peace, joy and awareness through sound and music. Their work focuses on how music creates individual and social experiences of regulation through practice as process.
