Join archaeologist Ed Lenik on a walking tour all about the history and culture of the Ramapough Lenape peoples in the region. Archaeologist and author, Edward J. Lenik, will lead a hike around the grounds of Ringwood Manor and talk about the history and culture of Indian people in the Highlands region. The Ramapough Lenape Nation has roots here reaching back 12,500 years. Learn about their lifeways, subsistence practices, burial practices, stone tools, stone tools, habitation sites, folklore, myths, and legends. Visit places at Ringwood Manor associated with their history. The tour begins at the Coffee Shop, located next to Ringwood Manor, where Mr. Lenik will present a brief introduction to Indian culture history. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended on this walk. Pre-registration is required. This program is free of charge. Group is limited to 50 people. This program is sponsored by the North Jersey Highlands Historical Society, an official Ringwood State Park Friends Group. Ringwood Manor is a designated National Historic Landmark located in northern New Jersey. The site was the summer home of the Cooper & Hewitt family, owners of the Cooper & Hewitt Iron Company during the 19th century. Donated to the State of New Jersey in 1938, the home is fully furnished in all the original contents of the family and includes more than 1,000 acres of historic gardens and landscapes. The site hosts numerous public tours, events, and programs throughout the year.
