Here are the top stories in and around Des Moines today: Keith Barnette Jr., a Des Moines resident, has been arrested for child endangerment after he fractured both legs of a 5-month-old infant, police say. Barnette, the baby's sole caretaker, stated in a phone interview that he became frustrated with the baby and "pulled him harder than intended," almost causing the child to fall off a bed and injuring him in the process. The suspect is currently being held at the Polk County Jail on a $10,000 bond. (KCCI Des Moines)Governor Kim Reynolds is still considering whether to deploy Iowa State Patrol officers and public safety personnel to the U.S. border with Mexico to aid law enforcement and border security efforts. In July, nearly 30 officers from the Iowa Department of Public Safety worked a two-week border security stint in Texas with the goal of disrupting criminal activity and aiding humanitarian efforts. As of Sunday, Governor Reynolds is still evaluating the possibility of deploying Iowa personnel to the border again.
